Saaz

Very fine aromatic hops, the world standard of fine hops. It is distinguished by a high content of farnesen and excellent brewing properties, for use especially in Pilsen-type bottom fermented beers, where its extraordinary fine aroma with a balanced soft bitterness is distinguished.

It was obtained by clonal selection of the original stands of Žatec and Úštěk region. There are nine clones: Osvald's clone 31; 72; 114, Sireřem, Blato, Lucan, Zlatan, Podlesak and Blsanka. Osvald's clones 31, 72 and 114 are the most widely grown. It was registered in 1952. It is the most widely grown variety grown in Czech hop-growing region, formerly known as "green gold" for its brewery uniqueness and export significance. Growth disadvantage is the low average yield, which average is between 0.9 and 1.2 tons of dry hops per hectare.

Use
